Fury had a great 2017 season with the Pacific Coast Football League thus far, stretching their record to 24-0 in the last two seasons.  Excellent job, fellas.  Although the team’s successes never centers one single player, so it is unlikely that the entire Fury team will be awarded for the excellence.  Each player, coach and team personnel play a vital part of each players’ performances in and out each week, on every team in any season.  This year, the PCFL recognized two players from Capital City Fury with an outstanding season performance award.  Let's take a look at the list of top performers in the 2017 PCFL season.

Cody Allen, QB, Capital City Fury – 2017 PCFL League MVP

Cody passed for over 2100 yards and averaged 309.7 yards per game.  Allen played high school football locally at Elk Grove High School.  In 2004/2005 he played his senior year and moved on to Laney College.  It was at Laney that he was mentored by Head Coach Justin Reber, to become an All American Quarterback who broke numerous school records.  He is the 2017 PCFL League MVP.

Kevin Basped, DE, Capital City Fury – 2017 PCFL Defensive Player of the Year

Here’s another one of Fury’s.  If not the leader, he is one of the leaders of the ever powerful defense.  Basped was an undrafted rookie in the NFL in 2010.  His career was cut short with the New York Jets, when he suffered an injury that left him out of the 2010 season.   He tallied up 15 sacks and 2 forced fumbles during the 2017 PCFL season.  Kevin Basped was nominated the 2017 PCFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Jorrick Calvin, DB, Patterson Lions – 2017 Special Teams Player of the Year

Jorrick Calvin is primarily a Cornerback, but as a Kick/Punt Returner, he is one to watch.  Which would definitely explain how he was drafted to the NFL in 2010 by the Arizona Cardinals.  He performed very well until he was placed on injured reserve on December 23, suffering from a back injury in week 15 against the New York Giants.  Calvin was waived by the Eagles on September 1, 2011.

Calvin had 11 kick off returns, returning one for 80 yards and 4 touchdowns during the 2017 PCFL season.  Along with the 9 punt returns, 302 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Calvin is the 2017 PCFL Special Teams Player of the Year.

Great choices by the Pacific Coast Football League in their selections of the top performers of the year.  Each player on every team in the PCFL plays with a sense of urgency.  You can tell when you watch the game from the stands.  Just as I mentioned earlier in the article, if there was a recognition every player in the PCFL for their dedication and efforts during the regular season, I'm sure that the PCFL will definitely honor.  For Capital City Fury, every player on the team is recognized as a part of the "Gorilla Gang".  And that's MVP enough.
